Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Richebourg Grand Cru has a note of bacon fat on the nose, quite well defined, toasty and savory (a touch of morels here?). The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannin, moderate weight, sweet with brown sugar notes towards the plush finish that lacks some backbone. This is just not the style that ticks my boxes. Aromas and flavors of macerated cherry are shaded by toast and spice in this fleshy red. Vibrant and fluid, with dense tannins and a toasty, smoky aftertaste. Classy and a little reticent now, so be patient. Best from 2019 through 2030. 5 cases imported. — BS (05/2016)
