The 2005 Bond Vecina 750ml is from the Napa Valley region of California. Bond Winery, inspired by one-of-a-kind Grand Cru Burgundian philosophies, makes terroir-specific Cabernet Sauvignon. Bond’s five cru’s (vineyards) – Melbury, Vecina, St. Eden, Pluribus and Quella – are located in different parts of the Napa Valley and have proven to consistently produce super high quality fruit. Proprietor Bill Harlan, along with Robert Levy as Director of Winegrowing, Cory Empting as Winemaker and Mary Maher as Vineyard Manager, are focused on fulfilling Bill Harlan’s vision of creating terroir expressions of the highest caliber that will endure for centuries. And based on critic reviews and market demand, they are clearly succeeding.

The 2005 Vecina is also strutting its stuff. I can’t say it showed better than it did last year, but this wine comes close to perfection for my palate. Made in a Graves-like style, it exhibits scents of roasted herbs, espresso, scorched rocks, and liquid minerals seamlessly integrated into a full-bodied, dense wine offering a cascade of black cherries and black currants. Built for the long haul, this powerful 2005 is soft enough to be drunk early, but it will not hit its stride for at least a decade, and should age for three decades thereafter.- Robert Parker Jr. (12/2008)

Dense, powerful and explosive, the 25 Vecina is superb. The barest hints of aromatic development come through. Although the 25 can probably be enjoyed now with some air, I would prefer to cellar it, as the future for this wine is unquestionably very, very bright.- Antonio Galloni (11/217)
