The ripe, rich, powerful 2003 The Maiden displays some rusticity along with sweet charcoal-infused black currant fruit intermixed with notions of vanilla and espresso. Itβs a beauty, but not nearly as succulent, velvety, or voluptuous as the 2002 The Maiden. RP

Bright, deep ruby-red. Aromas of black cherry, redcurrant, menthol and red licorice. Sweet, dense and fine-grained, with lovely floral lift. Nicely ripe for the year. Finishes with firm, lush, building tannins. This needs a couple more years in the bottle. (The 24 was being blended on the day of my tasting.)- Stephen Tanzer (5/26)
