The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley is a dense purple color with boisterous, sweet, spicy, new oak, licorice, and olive notes. This flamboyant wine tastes lighter than I would have expected for a 1997. In the mouth, it reveals medium body, sweet jammy cherry fruit, and a soft finish. It needs to be drunk over the next 7-8 years. By the way, the Alexander Valley cuvees are always 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. - RP

Ruby-red, with a hint of development at the rim. Classic California cabernet aromas of blackcurrant, tar and menthol. Began slightly lean and herbaceous but seemed to put on weight and gain in texture as it opened in the glass. Firm acids are a bit tart but not quite spiky. Finishes firmly tannic, with a faint greenness and a note of coconutty sweet oak.- Stephen Tanzer (5/22)
