2012 Frederic Esmonin Mazis Chambertin

Impressively deep, bright ruby-red color. Very ripe aromas of blackberry, kirsch and game; clearly the most sauvage of these 2012s. Big, chewy and concentrated, with a slightly high-toned, chocolatey ripeness to the cassis and blackberry flavors. The tannins are ripe but still a bit rough. Can't match the Estournelles Saint-Jacques for refinement but this is a much riper style. This, too, calls for patience.- Stephen Tanzer (01/2014)
