The 2007 Guigal Hermitage Ex Voto 750 ml is from the Hermitage region of Rhone. Guigal, founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in the ancient village of Ampuis, is in the heart of Côte-Rôtie. Beginning in 1923 at the age of 14, Etienne Guigal made wine for over 67 vintages before retiring and turning the reigns over to his son, Marcel Guigal, in 1961. Marcel's hard work and perseverance enabled the Guigals to acquire several other wineries to expand their portfolio of estate-owned vineyards, including Vidal-Fleury (1984), Jean-Louis Grippat (2000), and Domaine de Vallouit (2000). As of today, Guigal now draws their fruit from vineyards in Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Tavel and Côtes-du-Rhône.

98 pts - Wine Advocate

["Just being released, the spectacular 2007 Hermitage Ex-Voto exhibits a discrete hint of oak (despite its 42 month aging in 100% new French oak) along with plenty of creme de cassis, lead pencil shaving and blackberry liqueur characteristics. Full-bodied with magnificent concentration and richness, silky tannins and a long, long finish, this remarkable 2007 is the Hermitage of the vintage. It should drink well for 30-40+ years._RP"]
