Château Ferrière, a distinguished estate in the Margaux appellation, boasts a rich history dating back to the 18th century. It was founded by Gabriel Ferrière, a royal figure responsible for overseeing the king’s hunts. The estate remained in the Ferrière family for generations until 1914, when it was sold to Armand Feuillerat, who also owned Château Marquis de Terme.

In 1855, Château Ferrière was classified as a Third Growth (Troisième Grand Cru Classé) in the official Bordeaux Classification. However, for much of the mid-20th century, its wines were produced at Château Lascombes under a long-term lease. This changed in 1988, when the Villars family acquired the property, restoring its independence and winemaking operations. By 1992, full control of the vineyard returned to them.

Today, Château Ferrière is managed by Claire Villars-Lurton, who has transformed the estate with a strong commitment to sustainability. The vineyard is cultivated using organic practices (certified since 2015) and biodynamic principles (Demeter-certified since 2018), emphasizing respect for the terroir and ecosystem.

With a relatively small vineyard size of 24 hectares, Château Ferrière is one of the smallest classified estates in Margaux, yet it consistently produces wines of remarkable intensity, elegance, and aging potential—a testament to both its exceptional terroir and meticulous craftsmanship.
