The 2013 Kosta Browne Kanzler Vineyard Pinot Noir 750ml is from the Russian River Valley region of California. Kosta Browne is known for their intensely-flavored and balanced wines from the Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast and Santa Lucia Highlands appellations. Founders Dan Kosta, Michael Browne and Chris Costello have watched their hard work pay off, rising from (essentially) garagistes in 1997 to one of the most sought-after pinot noirs from California. In fact, I recently read that the current wine club membership is maxed out at around 12,000 members and there are currently over 15,000 on the waitlist! Their 2009 Sonoma Coast received Wine Spectator’s Wine of the Year award. If you love big pinots and chardonnays, then this is definitely the wine for you.

The last vineyard harvested, the 2013 Pinot Noir Kanzler Vineyard, wasn’t brought in until between the 8th and 11th of October. Mostly destemmed and aged 16 months in just under 40% new French oak, it has a cool, fresh, perfumed style to go with lots of rose garden, framboise, black cherry and spice. Lightly textured, elegant and vibrant, it should benefit from a year in bottle and drink well through 2023.-JD

Shows wonderful depth, richness, balance and complexity, with enticing aromas and an array of blackberry, raspberry, licorice, fresh-turned earth and crushed rock flavors, ending smooth. The tannins exhibit nice grip at the very end. Drink now through 2022. 665 cases made.-JL

The 2013 Pinot Noir Kanzler is soft, delicate and nuanced in the glass, with a much more floral, savory personality than the Sonoma Coast appellation Pinot. Crushed flowers, sweet tobacco, mint, game and dried cherries open up in the glass, but the 2013 remains medium in body and quite delicate.
