Healthy dark red; more lucid than the regular Champs Chenys bottling. Distinctly fresher and higher-pitched that that wine, offering aromas of purple fruits and smoke. Sweet, broad and nicely concentrated, with its dark berry flavors lifted by a fresh menthol note. Much more complexity here owing to the very old vines. Finishes suave and very long, with fine-grained tannins. This wine should be approachable on the young side but will also age well.- Stephen Tanzer (03/2016)
