Puligny-Montrachet is a communal appellation, named after the village adjacent to these vineyard sites, in the Burgundy region of France. It encompasses four Grand Cru vineyards, about 250-acres of Premier Cru vineyards, and 285-acres of commune appellation vineyards, which produce primarily white wine (Chardonnay), but also a small amount of red wine (Pinot Noir). Wines from Puligny-Montrachet generally reflect the minerality of the limestone that is a key element of its soil, have a firmer structure, and are more perfumed than other communes within the Cote de Beaune sub-region of Burgundy.
