["A blend of 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot, the 2006 Proprietary Red offers a dense plum/purple color along with a big, sweet kiss of cassis, licorice, and hints of smoke, tobacco leaf, and roasted coffee beans. Deep, pure, velvety textured, and opulent, this is an atypically seductive, lush 2006 that can be drunk now and over the next 15+ years. This is my first look at the wines of Ovid, another luxury oriented project from one of my favorite sites in Napa Valley, Pritchard Hill. A trifecta of talent, winemaker Andy Erickson, consultant Michel Rolland, and viticultural manager David Abreu are behind the wines. There are 15 acres in vine, so Ovid, while small, is not microscopic. What is so striking about these three cuvees is their opulence, silkiness, purity, and burgeoning complexity. I had heard terrific things about Ovid, and this trio lived up to my lofty expectations. - Robert Parker"]
