The 2003 Guigal Hermitage Ex Voto 750 ml is from the Hermitage region of Rhone. Guigal, founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in the ancient village of Ampuis, is in the heart of Côte-Rôtie. Beginning in 1923 at the age of 14, Etienne Guigal made wine for over 67 vintages before retiring and turning the reigns over to his son, Marcel Guigal, in 1961. Marcel's hard work and perseverance enabled the Guigals to acquire several other wineries to expand their portfolio of estate-owned vineyards, including Vidal-Fleury (1984), Jean-Louis Grippat (2000), and Domaine de Vallouit (2000). As of today, Guigal now draws their fruit from vineyards in Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Tavel and Côtes-du-Rhône.

98 pts - Wine Advocate

["The 2003 Hermitage Ex Voto is more beefy and meaty, with decadent dark fruits, iron, beef blood, leather and crushed rock-like qualities all soaring from the glass. Coming from the Les Bessards, l’Ermite, Les Greffieux and the Les Murets parcels, it has the highest alcohol of the lineup, yet you wouldn’t know it by tasting it. It’s a spectacular Hermitage that has incredible richness, massive concentration and blockbuster length. The most youthful of the lineup, it will be better in another 4-5 years and absolutely thrill over the following 2-3 decades. - eRobertParker.com, JD (4/2014)"]
