The 2002 Vecina comes from a vineyard not far from the steep hillsides of Harlan Estate, on the western hills of the Mayacamas Mountains overlooking the Oakville corridor and the eastern hillsides. This is a much earthier, spicier, more structured wine, much more masculine, with notes of scorched earth and almost Graves-like smoky, camphor and barbecue notes as well as black fruits galore. With its big, muscular structure and dense opaque/purple color, this wine actually seems younger in its evolution than either the St. Eden or Melbury. It is probably best forgotten for another 5-6 years, with another 30-34 years lifeline potential. It’s a sensational wine.- Robert Parker Jr. (06/2012)

Smooth, rich and polished, with a seductive array of blackberry, currant and black cherry fruit that glides across the palate. This is a complex, deeply concentrated wine with tannins that are ripe and round, even silky for its age. Best from 2007 through 2015. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 400 cases made. — JL (11/2005)

The 2002 Vecina is a total turn-on. The warm, radiant vintage has softened some of the natural Vecina gravitas. Powerful and ample in all directions, but with great aromatic freshness and vivacity, the 2002 will thrill readers who own it for another 15-20 years. In a word: superb.- Antonio Galloni (11/2017)
