The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley (by the way, all of the Alexander Valley offerings are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon) has a big, sweet, oaky nose and a seductive panoply of spices from cedarwood to plum pudding and fruitcake notes. It is a sexy, sensual, broad, flavorful Cabernet lacking serious depth, but offering attractive fruit, plenty of ripeness, and a big wallop of American oak. Drink it over the next decade. - Robert M. Medium-deep red. Exotic American oak tones of bourbon, coconut and cocoa butter dominate the nose. Then fat, lush, suave and dry, with no excess weight. Impressive more for its mid-palate texture than its fruit. Most complex today on the back end, which features broad, fine tannins and notes of cherry, candied raspberry, milk chocolate, espresso and bourbon. A very good vintage for this bottling.- Stephen Tanzer (5/25)
