The 1999 Malescot St Exupery Margaux 750 ml is from the Margaux region of Bordeaux.
This 1999 is one of the finest efforts of the vintage. It offers up complex aromatics consisting of herbs, red and black fruits, minerals, acacia flowers, and licorice. The dark plum color does not possess the saturation of a vintage such as 2000, but this is pure seduction in a medium-bodied, beautifully balanced, nicely-textured effort. Ruby-red. Reticent aromas of raspberry, roasted coffee, underbrush, animal fur and charred oak. Silky but firm, with lovely ripe acidity and considerable thrust for the year. Finishes with very good length, but in comparison to the 2000 and 2001 the tannins here are a bit more spiky.- Stephen Tanzer (05/2002)
