K Vintners Winery
As promised, the 2020 spring release from K Vintners has arrived at the warehouse. One of our favorites has always been the Motor City Kitty. This one usually sells out fast for us. It is a high scoring, low priced Syrah from one of the best winemakers in Washington. If you have not tried his wines before, that is a great one to start with. In 2022 James Suckling rated the 2019 MCK at 98 points and included it in his Top 100 Wines of the USA (#10), Top 100 Value Wines (#5), and Annual Report on Washington Wine (#6 of 600)!
The 2020 vintage might be the best vintage that we have ever had in Washington state history. We had an incredible growing season that was long and temperate, allowing the fruit to ripen evenly. The wines are focused, rich, complex, and lively.- K Vintners 2020 Vintage Notes
Charles Smith is the visionary winemaker behind iconic brands like K Vintners and Substance. Charles has received 198 scores of 95 points and above and 768 scores of 90 points and above. Today, House of Smith is the largest independent and winemaker-owned winery in Washington State with wines sold in all 50 states and 23 countries worldwide.
Winemaker Charles Smith opened the doors to his first winery, K Vintners, in December 2001. His first vintage was 330 cases of 1999 K Syrah, which he sold out of the back of his 1987 Chevy Astro van. The ’99 K Syrah immediately revealed that he could not only make extraordinary wine but he could make wine that people would remember. On the label was stamped a simple, giant, black on white letter “K,” big enough for anyone to spot across the room. It’s the same iconic and unforgettable black “K” that is used on the wine bottles today.
K Vintners is about small lots of single-vineyard Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Tempranillo, Sangiovese and field blends of those grapes, all of which are hand-picked, fermented with naturally occurring yeasts and basket pressed. if you are in the area and want to check them out, click here for more information or to schedule a visit.
