The 2013 Merlot, which is 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, is a big production cuvée of over 5,500 cases coming from both the Napa and Sonoma sides of their mountaintop vineyard. Abundant notes of mocha, coffee beans and berry fruit along with soft tannins, medium body, and an up-front, luscious, consumer-friendly style make for a wine to drink over the next 7-8 years.- Robert Parker Jr. (10/2015)
Tightly focused and structured, with red currant, toasty spice and crushed rock aromas and dense, still-youthful flavors of black cherry, sassafras and herb. Tannins tighten the finish. Best after 2017. 5,377 cases made. — TF (2016)
Today, the Merlot is deep, dense and powerful, but it also drinks surprisingly well for the year. Dark cherry, mocha, plum, smoke, licorice, spice and French oak are all quite forward.
