The 1999 Caymus Napa Valley Special Select Cabernet Sauvignon 750 ml is from the Napa Valley region of California. Caymus Vineyards has been owned and operated by the Wagner Family since 1972. Using meticulous farming practices, such as leaving the fruit to “hang” on the vine unusually long and crop thinning to control sun exposure, the Caymus wines have abundant, velvety tannins and suppleness that will stun you. Their flagship wine, the Special Selection, is comprised of the very best barrels of the vintage and is not produced in difficult years. The Napa Valley cabernet is a bit less precocious, but still big and age worthy. Caymus has been featured by many prominent reviewers, receiving the very highest accolades possible from each agency. This wine will truly impress you.

The dense ruby/purple-colored 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection reveals an overlay of sweet, toasty new oak intermixed with blackberries, currants, and vanilla with hints of tar, chocolate, and espresso. This big, sweet, juicy Cabernet is not the most complex effort. It is overt, flamboyant, and consumer-friendly. Drink it over the next 12-15 years. Bright red-ruby. Aromas of redcurrant, bitter cherry, tarry oak and bitter chocolate. Juicy flavors of blackberry, redcurrant and spicy oak, with a slightly dusty note of coffee grounds. Nicely balanced wine with good texture and decent concentration.- Stephen Tanzer (5/22)
