The 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley reveals complex aromatics of spice box, fruit cake, new oak, and dried herbs. Its frontal attack offers plenty of black currant fruit, licorice, olives, and Provencal herbs. Although it does not possess the size of previous vintages of the nineties, it is built along the lines of a good Bordeaux. Its deficiency is its short finish. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. - Robert M. Parker, Jr. (37499)

Fading but still complex, with vibrant anise, smoked herb, dried currant and sage notes. Full-bodied, with dry, gritty tannins, this is a bit hollow midpalate.--1998 California Cabernet retrospective. Drink now. 50,000 cases made. — JL (2009)

Medium red-ruby, with some amber at the rim. Currant, mocha and smoke aromas, along with a pronounced weedy, vegetal element. Offers only modest texture and ripeness in the mouth; I don't find a lot of flavor development here. Finishes with light but slightly drying tannins. A bit tart throughout.- Stephen Tanzer (5/22)
