1995 Pavie-Macquin (an approximation of the final blend; 40% new oak, vs. 33% in '94) Extravagant floral, blackberry aroma, with an intense spiciness that seems to come from the fruit rather than the 40% new oak. Surprisingly soft entry following the brilliantly delineated nose, but then fat, concentrated and very fresh, with terrific depth and richness. Really urgent flavor intensity, through to the palate-staining, very long finish. The tannins are rich and fine. Offers great thrust and personality. An extraordinary wine in the making, in the style of a top 1985 Pomerol.- Stephen Tanzer (05/1996)
