I have rated this wine significantly higher at other horizontal evaluations of the 1974 vintage. It can be an exceptional wine and a testament to what Freemark Abbey is capable of achieving. This bottle exhibited a plummy/garnet color with a rusty edge, and a big, fragrant bouquet of cedar, fruitcake, jammy, curranty fruit, and herbs. Rich, full-bodied, and concentrated with low acidity and tannin, as well as a chewy, robust personality, this big, brawny wine should continue to drink well for 7-10 years. RP
