About Dunn Vineyards
Dunn Vineyards is a family winery in the Howell Mountain AVA of Napa Valley. Randy Dunn and his wife, Lori, purchased their original 14-acre Howell Mountain property, already planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, in 1979 and made their first wine that year. At the time, Randy was the winemaker at Caymus, where he worked from 1975 through the 1985 harvest. Dunn's earliest vintages were made at Caymus and brought up the mountain to age, and the Dunn winery was bonded in 1981.
Randy Dunn's vision was to make wines that capture the power, structure and age-worthiness of mountain-grown fruit, and he became known for his commitment to traditional winemaking. The family's vineyards sit high on Howell Mountain, roughly 1,800 to 2,150 feet above sea level, where volcanic soils and a cooler mountain climate produce small crops of concentrated grapes with natural acidity.
The hallmark of Dunn wines is their remarkable aging potential. The Cabernet Sauvignons show intense dark fruit, earthy undertones and firm tannins that develop complexity and elegance over time, reflecting the character of Howell Mountain. Dunn has long been a small, family-run winery, typically producing only a few thousand cases a year, and it is highly regarded by collectors as one of Napa Valley's iconic producers.
