Domaine Drouhin-Laroze, situated in the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin, has been a family estate for six generations. A marriage in 1919 united the vineyards of the Laroze and Drouhin families, and the domaine has been run by the family ever since, with Philippe and Christine Drouhin joined by their children, Nicolas and Caroline.
Throughout its history, the family has focused on owning and farming only the finest sites in the Côte de Nuits, believing that great land is the foundation of great wine. Its holdings include six Grand Crus (Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, Chapelle-Chambertin, Latricières-Chambertin, Bonnes-Mares, Musigny and Clos de Vougeot), the Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Crus Craipillot, Au Closeau, Clos Prieur and Lavaut St-Jacques, and village wines from Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny. Given the scarcity of land and today's vineyard prices in Burgundy, a lineup like this would be almost impossible to assemble now.
The winemaking is meticulous and traditional, letting each terroir shine through with consistent vinification from one wine to the next; the main variable is the proportion of new oak. The wines age in the domaine's two-story cellar, built in 1815.
