The 18th-century château at Château Beauregard in Pomerol, framed by trees and a green lawn

About Château Beauregard

Château Beauregard takes its name from the Beauregard family, who owned the estate in the 17th century. Its elegant château, unusually grand for Pomerol, dates from the 18th century. It was admired enough that the Guggenheim family later built a replica of it on Long Island, New York.

Family ownership ended in 1991, when the estate was sold to the Crédit Foncier bank, and quality began to rise. In 2014 Beauregard was acquired by the Moulin family, owners of Galeries Lafayette, in partnership with the Cathiard family of Château Smith Haut Lafitte. The same owners bought neighboring Château Petit Village in 2020.

The 17.5-hectare vineyard lies on the Pomerol plateau, on sand, gravel and a significant proportion of clay, divided into 34 parcels. It is planted mostly with Merlot and about 30% Cabernet Franc, and the estate is gradually increasing Cabernet Franc toward 40%. Vines are planted at a high density for Pomerol, about 9,250 per hectare, and the vineyard is farmed organically.

Each parcel is vinified separately in temperature-controlled, violin-shaped concrete vats. The wine is aged for 18 to 24 months in French oak, about 65% of it new. Production is about 5,000 cases a year, and the second wine is Le Benjamin de Beauregard. Château Beauregard is known for juicy red fruit, floral and spicy notes and a lighter, more traditional style that is approachable relatively young.
