2021 Chateau Dauzac Margaux

Château Dauzac, a prestigious Grand Cru Classé estate in the Margaux appellation, boasts a history dating back to at least 1545, when it was first recorded by the Benedictine monks of the Sainte-Croix de Bordeaux Abbey. Some historical accounts trace its origins even further to the 12th century, when Pétrus d'Auzac was granted the land by Richard the Lionheart. The estate rose to prominence in the 18th century under the stewardship of Pierre Drouillard and later the Lynch family, solidifying its reputation for exceptional winemaking. Officially classified as a Fifth Growth (Cinquième Cru) in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, Château Dauzac has been a symbol of innovation in viticulture, playing a key role in the 19th-century development of the Bordeaux mixture, a groundbreaking treatment against vineyard diseases.

In the late 20th and early 21st centuries, Château Dauzac underwent significant revitalization, particularly under the ownership of the MAIF insurance group and the management of André Lurton. Substantial investments in vineyard management and winemaking facilities have elevated its standing among Bordeaux’s elite. The estate spans 120 hectares, with 49 hectares planted with vines, rooted in the gravelly soils of Margaux and Haut-Médoc. Château Dauzac is committed to sustainable viticulture, employing organic and biodynamic farming practices across several parcels. Additionally, since 2016, all its wines have been 100% vegan, utilizing plant-based fining agents.
