Domaine Drouhin-Laroze
The Drouhin-Laroze domaine, situated in the middle of Gevrey-Chambertin, goes back 6 generations. A marriage in 1919 merged the vineyards of the Laroze and Drouhin families. Philippe and Christine Drouhin currently manage the operations with help from their children, Nicolas and Caroline.
One thing the family has clung to over the past 166 years: purchasing and farming only the best properties in the Cote de Nuits is paramount. For them, the land is critical to the foundation of fine wine. They own six different grand crus - Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Chapelle-Chambertin, Latricières-Chambertin, Bonnes Mares, Musigny and Clos de Vougeot - four premier crus - Craipillot, Au Closeau, Clos Prieur and Lavaut St Jacques - and village appellations from Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-St-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny. Given the lack of supply and the astronomical land prices in Burgundy, that amazing lineup of property would be almost impossible to replicate today.
Phillipe let's the terroir shine though by keeping the vinification consistent, altering only the amount of new oak used. He is meticulous and traditional in the process, which takes place in his two-story cellar built in 1815 by Prussian soldiers.
One of the top quality producers from this region!
