Charbono, also known as Bonarda, is a red-wine grape with a complex history and a global presence. It originated in the alpine vineyards of Savoie in eastern France, but today it is primarily found in Napa Valley, where it’s called Charbono, and in Argentina, where it's known as Bonarda. Wines made from this grape tend to be medium-bodied with high acidity, berry fruit aromas, and hints of smokiness.
