About Caymus Vineyards
Caymus Vineyards was established in 1972 by Charlie and Lorna Wagner and their son, Chuck Wagner, in Rutherford, in the heart of Napa Valley. The family's roots there run much deeper: Carl Wagner, an immigrant from Alsace, bought farmland in Rutherford in 1906, and his son Charlie and Charlie's wife, Lorna, purchased 73 acres nearby in 1941, planting orchards and wine grapes. The winery takes its name from Rancho Caymus, a 19th-century Mexican land grant in the area.
In 1975, Caymus introduced its Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon, which went on to make history. The 1984 and 1990 vintages were each named Wine Spectator's Wine of the Year, making Special Selection the only wine to receive that honor twice.
Caymus remains a family business, with the next generation of Wagners active in the family's winemaking. Its Cabernet Sauvignon is known for a rich, full-bodied style, with deep, dark fruit and a smooth, velvety texture.
