History and General Information
The historic Missouri Hopper Vineyard in Napa Valley's Oakville AVA has history that dates back to 1877 when Charles "Napa Charlie" Hopper gifted 100 acres of land to his daughter Missouri Hopper "for love and affection". Missouri Hopper, a vivacious and enterprising woman, managed the vineyard while also running the Palace Hotel in St. Helena. The property changed hands several times over the years and was once part of the Kelham family's Vine Hill Ranch, where it was known as Vineyard X.
In 1996, renowned Napa Valley grape grower Andy Beckstoffer purchased the property and renamed it Missouri Hopper in honor of the original owner's daughter. Today, the Missouri Hopper Vineyard consists of 45 contiguous acres on the famed Oakville Bench, producing some of the most sought-after fruit in the Napa Valley. The vineyard is known for consistently producing wines that display the complex profile of power with refinement characteristic of the celebrated Oakville Bench appellation.
