A Lenoble NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Cuvee Les Aventures Disg. 10/2012 – singularly blending vintages 2006 and 2002 from a single site; one-third of which was barrique-fermented; and which underwent its bottle-fermentation under cork – is certainly redolent of barrel resin. But there is a lot that’s of interest here. A faint and entirely noble hint of mushroom, intimations of chalk dust and a crab shell-like combination of brine and iodine inflect lime and crabapple on the nose as well as on a firm, full, yet at the same time brightly acidic palate. Cooling herbal inflections and an undertone of wet stone add to the intrigue of a finish that is, to be sure, rather tartly phenolic; austere; and a touch dried by its wood-influence, but which nonetheless very much rewards repeated visits and ought to prove fascinating at table for at least the next couple of years.- David Schildknecht (11/2013)

A harmonious Champagne, showing a fine interplay between the ripe white peach, Gala apple and baked pineapple fruit notes, accented by savory hints of salted nut, biscuit and smoke. Lacy in texture, with a tightly knit, citrusy finish. Drink now through 2020. 896 cases made.-AN

(made from a blend of 2006 and 2002 wines; L 11 318 04 06 05): Light yellow-gold. Powerful aromas of nectarine, poached pear and lemon curd, with suave vanilla, butter and floral accents. Deeply pitched orchard and pit fruit flavors are given spine by tangy acidity and pick up spiciness and chalky minerality with air. Powerful yet lithe and precise, finishing with excellent clarity, length and lingering vanilla and brioche notes.-JR
