This is another brilliant offering from Philippe Cuvelier, who has totally revolutionized the quality of this famous estate. The 2011 Clos Fourtet exhibits a dense blue/purple color as well as beautiful notes of creme de cassis, blueberries and raspberries, a complete as well as layered mid-palate, sweet tannin, good acidity and a charming personality. This is a highly successful effort for the vintage. Consume it over the next 10-12 years. - WA, RP (4/2014)

Bright, deep ruby. Black cherry, blackcurrant, road tar, espresso and exotic oak spices on the brooding nose. Enters the mouth supple and pliant, with dark cherry and sweet spice flavors, but a strong tannic core gives the wine considerable structure and weight. Sound acidity lifts the cocoa note on the long back end, with the new oak sweetening but not overwhelming the wine's fruit. Needs time. Stephane Derenoncourt began collaborating here in 2001 ("I should probably have cut back on the use of new oak sooner," he admitted), and he's very happy with the 2011.- Ian D'Agata (07/2014)
