The 2009 Kosta Browne Gaps Crown Vineyard Pinot Noir 750ml is from the Petaluma Gap region of California. Kosta Browne is known for their intensely-flavored and balanced wines from the Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast and Santa Lucia Highlands appellations. Founders Dan Kosta, Michael Browne and Chris Costello have watched their hard work pay off, rising from (essentially) garagistes in 1997 to one of the most sought-after pinot noirs from California. In fact, I recently read that the current wine club membership is maxed out at around 12,000 members and there are currently over 15,000 on the waitlist! Their 2009 Sonoma Coast received Wine Spectator’s Wine of the Year award. If you love big pinots and chardonnays, then this is definitely the wine for you.

Wine Advocate 92+ points

The 2009 Pinot Noir Gap’s Crown Vineyard captures the energy and focus of this site in the Sonoma Coast appellation. There is an energy and drive to the Gap’s Crown that is unique among the Kosta Browne Pinots. Cool, mineral infused notes and wild flowers add lift on the finish. The Gap’s Crown was made with 10% whole clusters. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. - Antonio Galloni (2/2012)

Vinous 93 points

Bright ruby-red. Highly expressive aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, cocoa powder and fresh rose. Silky and incisive on the palate, displaying superb energy and precision to its rich red fruit and floral pastille flavors. Conveys an impression of tension and energy and finishes with excellent length and lift.- Stephen Tanzer (05/2011)
