The 2004 Verite La Muse Cabernet 750 ml is from the North Coast region of California. Vérité has received a lot of press lately due to their seven 100-point scores they have received from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. This is the first time a Sonoma County winery has received this many perfect scores. Vérité has three red blends: Le Désir, predominantly Cabernet Franc supported by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, shows layers of concentrated fruit, exotic spice, opulent aromatics and a plush suede texture. La Joie exhibits the structure, depth and power of Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma County, and takes inspiration from the lauded reds France's Pauillac. La Muse has supple fruit and spice, exceptional balance and impressive length, and is crafted primarily from Merlot in the style of the great wines of Pomerol. Pierre Seillan is the genius behind these wines. As vigneron (not just winemaker), he executes his vision from roots to release. He exploits the soil, which varies greatly even within their estate vineyards, to take full advantage of its potential. During our visit there a few years back we also got to see his intricate canopy system that ensures the grapes get just the right amount of exposure. And how he crafts the juice is truly an art form. Clearly, Pierre's decisions are turning out perfect, or near perfect, wine, and that is something you definitely want to try!

Wine Advocate 98 points

The 2004 La Muse, a blend of 88% Merlot / 8% Cabernet Franc / 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, is equal parts Alexander Mountain, Knight’s Valley and Bennett Valley fruit with a tiny bit from Dry Creek. The wine grew incrementally as it sat in the glass. A dense purple color was followed by aromas of loamy soil, charcoal, asphalt, chocolate, freshly brewed espresso and abundant blackberry and cassis fruit. This deep, rich beauty is still young and primary, but is loaded with potential. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2035. - WA, RP (4/2014)

Vinous 94 points

(84% merlot, 8% cabernet franc, 5% cabernet sauvignon and 3% malbec) Bright red-ruby. Enticing aromas of plum, licorice, iron, mocha, tobacco and sexy nutty oak. Plush, spicy and sweet, with a lovely light touch to the silky flavors. Very suave wine, finishing long and firm, with noble tannins and lively acidity. Balanced to age but already accessible. Winemaker Pierre Seillan notes that the cabernet sauvignon component is to add "shoulders" to the wine, while the malbec contributes a spicy element.- Stephen Tanzer (05/2007)
