The 2002 Verite La Joie Cabernet 750 ml is from the North Coast region of California. Vérité has received a lot of press lately due to their seven 100-point scores they have received from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. This is the first time a Sonoma County winery has received this many perfect scores. Vérité has three red blends: Le Désir, predominantly Cabernet Franc supported by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, shows layers of concentrated fruit, exotic spice, opulent aromatics and a plush suede texture. La Joie exhibits the structure, depth and power of Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma County, and takes inspiration from the lauded reds France's Pauillac. La Muse has supple fruit and spice, exceptional balance and impressive length, and is crafted primarily from Merlot in the style of the great wines of Pomerol. Pierre Seillan is the genius behind these wines. As vigneron (not just winemaker), he executes his vision from roots to release. He exploits the soil, which varies greatly even within their estate vineyards, to take full advantage of its potential. During our visit there a few years back we also got to see his intricate canopy system that ensures the grapes get just the right amount of exposure. And how he crafts the juice is truly an art form. Clearly, Pierre's decisions are turning out perfect, or near perfect, wine, and that is something you definitely want to try!

Wine Advocate 98 points

A spectacular blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 1% Malbec, over two-thirds of the fruit from the Alexander Valley Mountain Estate and the balance from Knight’s Valley and Bennett Valley, the 2002 La Joie exhibits a sweet, opulent bouquet of charcoal, burning embers, forest floor, blackberries and kirsch. Deep, full-bodied, supple-textured, flamboyant and extroverted, with undeniable purity as well as finesse, it should drink well for another 20-25 years. Interestingly, the pH is a normal 3.61 and the alcohol is only 14.1%. - WA, RP (6/2012)

(68% cabernet sauvignon, 2% merlot and 12% cabernet franc) Bright ruby-red. Blackberry, licorice and mocha on the nose. Densely packed and juicy, with sharply delineated dark berry and floral flavors. Large-scaled but light on its feet owing to its lovely lift. Serious, gripping wine with a long, bright finish.- Stephen Tanzer (5/25)
