Colgin Cellars produces exquisitely handcrafted red wines using only the finest neo-classical winemaking methods in concert with small yields, gentle handling, attentive sorting and meticulous blending. The Colgin winery, completed in 2002, is located at the northern end of IX Estate in the Pritchard Hill area of St. Helena, California. Founded in 1992 by Florida art dealers Ann Colgin and Fred Schrader, Colgin impressed critics early on with their Herb Lamb Vineyard, at the base of Howell Mountain, cabernet. Their rich wines have just the right amount of silkiness and supple tannins, driving demand through the roof and a long waitlist for purchasing their wines.

Wine Advocate 95 points

The 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Herb Lamb Vineyard is performing significantly better out of bottle than it did from cask. This 200-case cuvee spent 26 months in oak. Its opaque purple color is followed by a gorgeous perfume of graphite, creme de cassis, and licorice, and full-bodied, layered, concentrated flavors with superb balance and density. Surprisingly sweet tannin as well as an explosive finish have developed over the last year. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2020+. - WA, RP (8/2002)

Full ruby. Flamboyant, pungent, sweetly oaky aromas of kirsch, dark berries, flowers and black pepper. Lush, dense and very concentrated; like a top Bordeaux from a very ripe year, this will depend more on its huge tannins than on its rather low acidity for longevity. The tannins spread out to saturate the entire palate.- Stephen Tanzer (5/22)
