Obsidian Ridge / Poseidon Vineyard

Obsidian Ridge has been one the "everyday drinkers" in our home for years. The quality and balance are amazing - beautiful fruit with wonderful minerality and supple tanins - and the price is right at roughly $25/bottle.

Obsidian Ridge's vineyard is planted at the highest part of the Mayacamas Mountains, 2,640' above sea level, benefiting from the unique conditions that high elevations impart unto wines, including thicker grape skins and more challenging growing conditions. The result is higher intensity phenolics - denser, higher concentrated flavors and riper tannins - that yield more delicious wine.

But if you prefer a Chard, you must definitely try the wines of Poseidon Vineyard. Made from the same vintners as Obsidian Ridge, but given a different label to make a clear distinction that the vineyards are in separate locations. Where Obsidian is the highest elevation, Poseidon is the lowest. Located adjacent to the lapping waves of the San Francisco Bay, at the southern part of Carneros near the Confluence of the Napa River and Carneros Creek, Poseidon has been producing amazing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay since 1973.

Evidently, critics and wine enthusiasts have been catching on to the fabulousness of these wines. The 2012 Cab recently received a "Top Value" rating from Wine Spectator and a score of 93 from Wine Enthusiast. And, with near perfect growing conditions, the 2013 vintage is even better. Robert Parker, himself, gave the 2014 Poseidon Chardonnay wine a 90-point score. It has wonderful notes of white peach and pineapple, along with the earthiness you might expect from a Carneros Chard. You'll love all the wines from Obsidian Ridge and Poseidon Vineyard!
